Night markets in LA: what to know before you go

Planning an evening at one of the night markets in LA? Here is how an evening food market works, and what to expect at ours.

How a night market works

A night market is an outdoor food market that runs after dark. There is usually no seating plan and no set menu. You walk the aisles, order small plates from different stalls, and eat as you go.

That makes it a good night out for groups. Everyone picks something different, and you share.

Tips for any night market in LA

Bring cash. Many food stalls prefer it, and small bills make ordering quick.

Go early. Waits are shorter near opening, and the full lineup is out within about an hour.

Check parking signs. Street parking has rules, and driveways must stay clear.

Wear flat, closed-toe shoes. Outdoor markets are often on asphalt or uneven ground.

Share plates. You try more for the same money.

What to expect at Imperial Night Market

Imperial Night Market is at 2300 E 15th St in Downtown Los Angeles, in an open-air alley beside a historic rail spur. It is open Friday 6:00 to 10:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday 5:00 to 10:30 pm, and entry is free.

The food is Mexican street food and antojitos. Dishes are available when a vendor is serving them, so the lineup changes by night.

Parking and transit

Street parking is free, public transit stops are nearby, and bikes and scooters can be walked in. Details are in the parking and rideshare guide.
